North South Trader’s Civil War – Volume XXV No. 5 The Christmas Issue Digging Tools of Pamela Lesche Enterprises Here at the Trader office we receive a steady stream of new books and various products for review. With the exception of pertinent books and an occasional video, we usually refrain from reviewing such products. However, we were recently asked to review several models of digging tools created by relic hunter George Lesche and designed specifically for relic and treasure hunters. I was initially disinclined to review them. Once I saw the products and field tested them, I changed my mind. The line of tool include several models of short-handled shovels, a trowel type tool, and the most impressive entrenching tool I’ve ever seen. All of the tools are of heavy gauge aircraft steel construction with fully welded joints, well-finished appearance, and sharpened blades. They are also heat-treated, tempered, and made in the USA. The “Relic Shovel” comes with a straight handle or a “T” handle, and is available in several lengths. Another shovel, called the “Groundshark,” sports a heavy gauge curved blade with cutting edges on each side, one of which is saw-toothed for root cutting. Their “Standard Digging Tool” is a heavy sharpened trowel with one edge sawtoothed for root cutting and a large handguard for user safety. This comes in two models, standard and deluxe. It also comes with a nylon belt sheath. The primary drawback to this tool is keeping it away from the gardener in the family. This is the finest trowel I’ve ever seen. I was most impressed with the Lesche version of the GI entrenching tool. Unlike the government-issue model, this indestructible “Folding Shovel” has a steel handle, not a wooden one. Lesche also offers several different blade types to choose from. As with their other tools, one edge of the blade is sharpened for root cutting. It has a padded handgrip and a small storage compartment in the handle. Lesche also offers a specially designed sheath for the folding shovel. These finely crafted tools are priced at: Relic Shovel $31.95, Groundshark $49.95-56.95, depending on style, Standard Digging Tool with sheath $36.95 or Deluxe model $49.95, and the Folding Shovel $59.95 (sheath additional). These tools come with an unheard of five-year warranty and are available from Pamela Lesche Enterprises, 35 South Woodruff Rd., Bridgeton, NJ 08302.
